On 27th September, when I broadcast this email:
Everyone replied or DM’d me on Discord: “What the fuck, Ashu, who is Nicki Minaj?”
Then they laughed, understood the joke, and it turned into fun with my loyal audience.
But for a new subscriber who isn’t yet engaged, it becomes harmful. Because they haven’t built a bond with me through my emails like others have.
So when they see something disruptive or confusing, it might make them open the email, but they won’t think twice before unsubscribing.
That’s exactly what happened to me.
9 Seconds Are Too Fast……..Lol
This guy opened only my welcome email, and after 10 days of sleeping in my list, he woke up and opened the “Nicki Minaj” email. Within 9 seconds, he unsubscribed lol.
He didn’t even think about who he was unsubscribing from.
The lesson?
Be yourself, be authentic, but be smart, {{first_name|Bro}}.
If you want to joke around and play with your loyal and engaging readers, segment them from your main list.
That way, you can have fun without risking new and unengaging subscribers.
