Hey {{first_name}} ,
Have you ever done a cold call and dialed the wrong number?
Maybe.
It just happened to me two days ago.
I got a real estate agency owner’s number from JustDial and called him.
And someone picked up, from the voice, I could tell it was a woman.
Then the things I heard on the phone made me start sweating.
I was about to drink 5 glasses of water, but one sound changed everything.
But before, let me tell you how the convo started.
Me: “Good morning, ma’am.”
Her: “Yeahhhhhhh.”
Me: “Ma’am, are you the owner of X Company?”
Her: “Yeshhhhhh.”
Me: “Is it the right time to talk with you?”
Her: “Yeahhh…” (slower tone this time)
Me: “I had a query about your company’s mail. About 5 days ago, I subscribed to your newsletter…..”
Then suddenly, from her side, I hear:
“No, Mom! AH! AH!” {moaning sounds}
Me, in my head:
“What the fuck?”
“What is going on in the world?”
The conversation continues…
Me: “Hello, ma’am?”
Her: “Who is speaking? Can you tell me?”
And that’s when I realised from her voice and the way she spoke, I wasn’t talking to the real estate owner at all.
It was an old lady babysitting her grandkids.
It was both horrible and a funny experience.
I was getting “yes” after “yes,” which is exactly what you want before pitching.
But Grandma?
She was totally tripping, lol.
At the end, she just said, “No, wrong number,” and hung up.
Next time, I’ll double-check right away. And you should too.
In the first few seconds, confirm you’ve called the right person or not.
Otherwise, you’re just wasting your time, {{first_name}}.
